Alchemy: Disregard questing, get flasks

Greetings, readers. Trolloks has asked me to do a guest post on his blog, and since I don't really have too much to brag about just yet, I'll just wing it and talk about the alchemy profession from my perspective.

I started playing WoW in December 2011 again after a long abstinence from the game that lasted since vanilla. I shared an account with 2 friends, and the account owner just kinda quit after he reached level 60, so my experience stopped around level 36. This time, I re-rolled my tauren druid and set out, with the help of the Recruit-a-friend buff, to get to level 85 quickly.

Professions were a bit of a no-brainer. Tauren have a racial perk that boosts herbalism, and that goes great with alchemy. Sweet. Being pretty new to end-game content and raids, I didn't know just how in demand flasks were until Trolloks told me how valuable they can be to raiders. So, I buckled down, got to farming for Cataclysm herbs and ended up making a damn good profit out of them at the auction house. On the Bloodfeather EU server, Titanic Strength and Draconic Mind sell for around 100g each and are almost always in demand.

I recently got really, really lucky. As an alchemist, my druid hit the jackpot while digging up some Tol'vir artifacts, when in my 2nd Canopic Jar I found this. After a little more farming and auctioning, I managed to scrape together enough funds to buy the ridiculously expensive mats (like 8 Sands of Time and the Pyrium-laced Crystalline Vial)  and finally sell one off for a 5000g profit, which isn't bad for a few hours' grinding.

Alchemy seems like it has a lit of potential for being a massive late-game money-maker, especially if there are a lot of raiding guilds on. Also, as a very, very long-term investment, the Vial of the Sands is a great way to score a quick few K. Be warned, though. I got lucky. The recipe has a 2% drop rate inside only one of 13 Tol'vir artifacts that only have fragments in Uldum, which has 9 of the possible 59 archaeology dig sites. I can't be bothered to do the math right now, but the chances of finding it are damn remote. You might find cool stuff along the way, though.

Sandstone drake mount. Seats 2. Well, 1, if you exclude the vehicle as a person...
