It didn't help me at all though, in fact clearing my cache just made it worse. Everytime the game loaded I was given the icon of a computer player...
Here's what I discovered in the search to find the answer to the problem
- It's "apparently" not a problem from Blizzard's side
- I've noticed that the problem occurs with 3G users (Especially in South Africa)
- It also seems that it could be caused by ports being blocked by your ISP
To solve the problem though I have fixed mine by logging into the game while using someone else's internet.
I know this is kinda unpractical so the other solution (For 3G) is to apply for an "unrestricted APN" which allows you to surf without any port blocking from the ISP (in my case Vodacom).
Hope this helps someone, here is another solution too.

Hey Everyone
Disclaimer, I haven't tried this, nor can do I gaurentee it works/is safe.
I am from South Africa, and I have been having this problem for a while.
Blizzard says its ISP blocking stuff, and they may just be right.
Did some snooping on the US forums, and found that some people
tried using some OpenVPN software. The one quoted was found at
http://hotspotshield.com/.
What this does is opens a secure connection between you and the
hotspotshield servers, allowing all downloads not to be blocked.
Apparently, open the VPN, log into your client, and it will download
the required cache files, which will make achievments work.
The next time you can connect as normal
(since the cache files are downloaded already). I will try this when
I'm home, and let everyone know what happened.
On a lighter note though...
